Sons and Daughters of the Greatest Generation

We were born after the “Big One”, WWII. We were raised in the cradle of peace and prosperity, secure in the knowledge that the world was again safe. The horrors of war were behind us as we dwelled in the illusion that it was the war to end all wars.
We indulged in bike rides, school dances, drive-in movies, holidays, Summer vacations and finally graduation.
It was then that war again reared its ugly head to claim our brothers and sisters. Some of us remembered our history. We banded together at college campuses and Woodstock in the charmingly naive belief that we could actually change the world. We all know how that worked out.
Our sons and daughters now exist in a vapid state, eyes down, bent over, remotely living their lives via the pecking of a keypad. War is now the norm as we face a six-headed snake in a region so remote, few of us barely knew of it while we were growing up.
The minority is the majority as the West slowly dies. Crime and drugs rule our cities and towns. Most of the old drive-ins are now strip malls or corporate parking lots.
The Greatest Generation is taking its exit as we take its place. What is left for us now is only hope.
